I got a very sad email this morning from the provost at Babson College, in Boston, announcing the sudden and unexpected death of Jeff Timmons , 66. Jeff was the guiding light in the entrepreneurship department at Babson, but he was much more.
When I started teaching at Marquette in 2001, I attended Jeff's superb college case teaching program. Aside from the advice and coaching I get, he and his program at Babson were inspirational in their orientation towards students, the art of the possible, and an open, welcoming attitude. He shared graciously and has always been available for questions or discussions.
He led a large group of people into the teaching of entrepreneurship. His insights about teaching and learning, and about enabling those of us who are non-academics to teach well (or as well as we could) has made a huge difference to thousands of students, entrepreneurs and teachers.
We will all miss him.
While I did not have him as a professor while I attended Babson from 95-99 his influence in shaping Babson definitely had a positive impact on my experience there.
Very sad...
Jamie
